Title : MNEMOSYNE Project: Digital Cultural Heritage, Use and Re-use – The case of the Antikythera Mechanism

Abstract : The ERA Chair MNEMOSYNE project main objective is the Definition and creation of holistic documentation ‘pipelines’ for specific user communities and creation of standards for 3D documentation and knowledge management in DCH. The research topics under consideration include: DCH data acquisition and data processing, DCH data modelling, Knowledge management (interpretation), Preservation and Use and Re-use. The subject of this work is to demonstrate the Use and Re-use topic.  For this purpose, one of the project’s case studies, the Antikythera Mechanism, will be presented and discussed.   

Bio :  Kyriakos Efstathiou is since 2019 the Chair Holder of the EU ERA (European Research Area) Chair on Digital Cultural Heritage, in the Cyprus University of Technology. From 1982 – 2019 was Professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. His main research focus in the holistic digital documentation in cultural heritage and he is  well known for using innovative technologies and tools in the investigation and re-construction of several archaeological findings. He has authored several dozens of publications in international scientific journals and conference proceedings.
