Researchers are invited to share their experiences and novel achievements in various fields of Computer Graphics and Virtual Reality. Previous recent CGI conferences have been held in Sydney, Australia (2014), Strasbourg, France (2015), Heraklion, Greece (2016), Yokohama, Japan (2017), Bintan, Indonesia (2018), and Calgary in Canada (2019). CGI has been virtual between 2020 and 2022 due to the COIVD pandemic, and this year, CGI 2023 is organized by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and University of Sydney, and supported by the Computer Graphics Society (CGS), CGI 2023 will (hopefully) be held as a hybrid event – allowing both onsite and online participation – in Shanghai.

The CGI 2023 conference will host a variety of satellite events including workshops, challenges, and tutorials. Among other satellite events, challenges have become an integral part of CGI 2023. Their aim is to provide a fair and direct comparison of different methodological solutions to a common problem. Challenges should address a well-defined open problem relevant to computer graphics and virtual reality, provide high-quality data for testing / training algorithms, and define a clear assessment procedure. Examples of topics from previous challenges include: rendering, modeling, animation, segmentation, detection and visualization. Proposals related to accessible, fair, responsible, and translational graphics applications are particularly welcome.

Challenge format

Challenges will take place on Aug. 28- Sept. 01, 2023. Each challenge may be organized as a half-day meeting. Challenge sessions may be designed as oral / poster presentations of the results that each participant achieved prior to the conference and/or hands-on competitions during the event. CGI2023 supports open data; hence, we encourage the organizers to use open-source data licenses and/or keep the challenge open to submissions beyond the conference, providing a sustained platform for benchmarking.

Submission process

Challenge submissions will be handled by a structured process to ensure completeness of the information for a high-quality challenge review as well as structured access to challenge information in the future. The challenge organizers need to submit their challenge proposal (pdf) to the review platform (easychair system).

A template for the full proposal is available at Microsoft Word (CGI2023 challenge proposal template.docx). Proposals should be submitted in PDF format.

Review process

The submitted challenge proposals will be selected based on the following criteria：

potential scientific, economic and social impact;

expected interest in the topic by the CGI conference audience;

quality of the challenge design.

The CGI 2023 challenge organizing committee will make a final decision for the CGI2023 challenges.

Copyright

Challenge organizers will assign to the CGI 2023 conference and Computer Graphics Society the right to distribute challenge materials (such as the agenda or the challenge design document) to challenge and conference attendees.

Proposal Submission via email (open for submissions from Jan.01 2023):

Submit your proposal via Easychair

Important dates

<div class="wptb-text-container wptb-ph-element wptb-element-text-52" style="color: rgb(74, 85, 104);
