MIRALabian Alumnies at CGI 2024

Listen to few Alumnies from MIRALab attending CGI 2024 workshop

MIRALab WORKSHOP – CGI 2024

MIRALab, a research lab, founded at the University of Geneva in 1989 by Professor Nadia Magnenat Thalmann will present new research & development in the MIRALab workshop during CGI2024 on July 1, 2024.
At the University of Geneva, Professor Thalmann has supervised more than 30 PhDs students, mainly in computer science and related areas who have paved the way for pioneering  very innovative research. Mainly, the team has initiated the first 3D physical modelling of clothes,  illustrated by virtual 3D fashion shows,  the modelling of facial expressions and emotions with interactive Virtual Humans , the 3D modelling of articulations with demonstrations on shoulder, classical ballerinas, and soccer people. The team has also initiated VR/AR/XR early research  together with the VR team of EPFL to model the ancient life of Pompeii, the former life of Ayia Sofia and other mosques in Turkey and many others.
One top experience was the real-time communication between Singapore and Geneva through VR and new telecom settings for the Telecom 1985 event. Another famous research and presentation was ANYONE FOR TENNIS, showing in 1987, on giant screens, one player in EPFL user VR headset and one player in Geneva using VR headset  to play real-time tennis through VR space. This VR live event was shown for the opening of the Interactive Telecom event in 1987 in front of several communications ministers coming from various countries.

Many of these key former PhDs students are now professors or research managers in prestigious places as Microsoft Redmond, USA, Utrecht University in Netherlands,  Indian Institute of Technology in India, Konkuk University in Korea, President of Dreamscape immersive in USA and Geneva, Professor at University of Ottawa and Carlton University, in Canada, Director of Stavros Niarchos Foundation cultural Center in Athens, and so many others that the list would be too long to enumerate.
These talented people are all invited back to Geneva to present their recent Research and Development during the workshop MIRALab.
Do not miss this unique opportunity to listen to those who have pioneered so many fields and to listen to their experience and new ideas.
