Prof. Igor S. Pandžić – University of Zagreb Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, Croatia

Bio: Igor S. Pandžić is a Professor at the Department of Telecommunications, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb, Croatia. He leads the Human-Oriented Technologies Laboratory (HOTLab). He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the fields of virtual environments and communications. His main research interests are in the field of computer graphics and, more recently, computer vision, with particular interest in face analysis and animation and strong focus on applications of these technologies. He published five books and around 100 papers on these and related topics. Formerly he worked at MIRALab, University of Geneva, where he finished his PhD in 1998. He was a visiting scientist at AT&T Labs, at the University of Linköping and at Kyoto University. In Linköping he co-founded the company Visage Technologies AB that currently employs about 190 people working in the field of computer vision.

THE PRESENTATION

Title: Faces, Cars and Beauty

Abstract: Igor will give a brief and non-technical overview of his current activities, consisting of the academic side at the University of Zagreb and the business side at the company Visage Technologies AB that he co-founded in 2001. The academic work will be presented with an overview of the recent results in automatic age estimation from facial images, the work of the PhD student Krešimir Bešenić. An overview of products and activities of Visage Technologies AB will be presented, in particular in the automotive and beauty industries.
